Her reply, “Hmm. Do or do not.. there is no try” in her Yoda’s voice impersonation. ( pretty impressive, I might add 🙂 ) She is an avid Star Wars fan.
My reply, heh! I’ve read and heard several naysayers about what Yoda really meant by that famous statement. Many of them, including me, think that that is only good if you live in a galaxy, far, far away and that the Force is watching your every move.
I argued that we should still try. Practice until we can do it right. To quote an old cliché, since we are into famous quotes, “Practice makes perfect”. She smiled and asked me to pick up the spoon in front of me. I did and quizzically asked, so what’s your point?
She said, “see what you did? You didn’t try to pick up the spoon. You picked it up, you did it!”
Ah! What a wise friend. She is a keeper!
In business and even in life, we find ourselves saying …
I will try to exercise more
I will try to lose weight
I will try to make my dream business come true
I will try to launch my business in 60 days
How many times do we follow up with those “try” moments?
Trying is not the same as doing!. It is an excuse.
I will take my best bud friend’s advice – there is no try, just do.
How about you?
Did you ever say to yourself that you will try to build your dream business? You didn’t do it because you don’t know how or where to start?
If you do, I’d like talk with you to discuss what is holding you back and if I can be of help to you.
